Ohhhh snap, new podcast with Jon Markel coming in hot! I was recently in Richmond playing a drive in show and helping to fulfill kickstarter orders. The night before I headed home, Jon and I sat down at the dinner table for some bacon and a podcast. We get real deep about the state of the industry and the state of Carbon Leaf in the current Covid climate and Jon finishes it off with another classic story. Enjoy this weeks episode of after the gig!

Rob Griffith - “I never made that mistake again”
Tuesday Jul 07, 2020
Tuesday Jul 07, 2020
Today on the podcast I have the drummer for the national touring act Bronze Radio Return, Rob Griffith. Rob and I have been friends ever since we went on tour together in 2010. Bronze was nice enough to let Dan Mills open for them and follow them around the north east region, and I can say that touring and playing music with those guys is an experience that I will cherish and remember forever. In this episode I rant about the Chase Rice concert situation, the state of the music industry, what it takes to run a DIY touring band, my “how did you join Carbon Leaf?” Story, and much more. I hope you enjoy, and tune in next week for part 2 of this conversation!
A week after we recorded this episode, Rob tragically lost his brother. My thoughts and prayers are with the Griffith family, and this episode is dedicated to the memory of Allan David Griffith. RIP

Kristin Hutchinson - “You’re probably going to be pretty good at ping pong”
Tuesday Jun 16, 2020
Tuesday Jun 16, 2020
Today on the show I have my friend Kristin Hutchinson. Kristin is a comedian, public speaker, and aspiring author. I randomly met Kristin at the Gaff in Watertown, Ma while she was working there as a bartender. Kristin’s positivity and infectious energy is something that we all need right now, and I hope you enjoy this conversation. Please note that this was recorded in 2019 while I was still living in Boston, so some of the dates mentioned may be old. You can catch up with Kristin on Instagram page @kristinbeingkristin, and check out one of her live stream interviews every Monday-Friday from 7-8 pm EST!

“A little history, and a rant.”
Thursday Jun 11, 2020
Thursday Jun 11, 2020
Today on the show, I share a couple of excerpts from one of my collage textbooks. The book is called “Black Notes” and it was written by my African Studies professor, William Banfield. This book discusses the evolution of black music in America. I feel like it’s important for a music podcast like mine, to educate people on the history and important impact black music has had throughout American culture.
There is also a rant on Facebook word policing and social justice warriors that may or may not make any sense… I really hope it does. Facebook and Twitter has evolved into this place in which you’re not allowed to be anything other than perfect. Where, Even though you stand for something good, you can be torn down for something you said when you were 16. A place where we yell at one another and never listen and try to find any common ground. Who are these perfect people? I’m definitely not one of them. Enjoy the episode!

Hey folks! On this episode of After the Gig, I read and comment on Dave Grohl’s article in The Atlantic. I also express my frustration with the pandemic and maybe not being able to play a show for the foreseeable future. Pretty weird, wild times we’re living in right now.

On this episode of After the Gig I continue my conversation with Gavin Castleton. We get into the inception of his former band Gruvis Malt, the living room in Providence, and a BUNCH of other stuff. You will notice that the episode ends abruptly… That’s because it ends where part one begins. Pretty sneaky, right? Anyway. This was truly a pleasure to record and I hope you enjoy this weeks episode! Go buy Gavin’s new album!!! gavincastleton.bandcamp.com.
